these would include appliances such as full or partial
dentures which are sometimes used as a permanent or
temporary replacement for missing teeth. removable
partial dentures have clasps that anchor onto teeth to
hold the partial in the mouth. full dentures contain no
clasps because there is no teeth but instead uses the
soft tissue and the bony ridge of the arch of the mouth
to hold into place. dentures are inefficient
replacements for missing teeth, but dentures are used
for esthetics of the mouth, speech, and some function
for eating. just a few implants may help regain more
function and confidence when wearing dentures by giving
stability.
dentures are most likely the best solution if you lost
your teeth because of periodontal disease. many people
believe that once they have dentures, they no longer
need regular dental care. denture wearers require
regular exams to ensure their health, comfort and
appearance. gum tissues are in a constant state of
change. periodic relining of the dentures may be
necessary to ensure a tight and comfortable fit; as well
as, patients will most likely have to get new dentures
in 3-7 years because of the re-absorption of the bony
ridge of the mouth that is used to support the denture. |
