extraction is the removal of a tooth in the oral
cavity. this procedure is performed when a tooth is
growing into other hard tissue, soft tissue or other
teeth in the body abnormally, which is called
impaction. extraction is performed to make room in a
patient’s mouth for the remaining teeth to be
straightened or aligned correctly. other reasons for
extractions are severely decayed teeth or fractured
teeth to the point that they cannot be restored. the
replacement of extracted teeth can be bridges, dentures,
or implants. extractions can usually be performed with
local anesthesia.
